John Bance & Son

Jocelyn Mason

Born into a third generation Wagga Wagga family, I was schooled at South Wagga Primary and Wagga Wagga High Schools. In 1987 I started working at John Dwyer & Co Funeral Home in Morgan Street as the office manager where I remained until deciding to move to Townsville to become an “army wife” with husband Ian being in the military.

Over a period of six years we saw postings in Canberra and Sydney before returning to Wagga Wagga at the end of 2006. Whilst living in Sydney I worked for a large funeral company, but found it very different to the family owned and operated business that I had spent so long in. I decided on a complete change of pace and went to work in a scrapbooking and craft store.

On my return to Wagga Wagga I worked for some years at Calvary Hospital in the admissions area before moving to work for TAFE NSW. In early 2013 the opportunity arose for me to return to work with the Bance family, an opportunity that took no hesitation in accepting, as it was working in the funeral industry that I had always loved most. The contact I have with families during their times of great sadness and the assistance I am able to provide to them during these times is something that I pride myself in being able to do well. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to help people, and over the years I have forged some strong friendships with people I have met.

I have three children, Emily, Tom and Hannah. My outside work life includes being actively involved with the 219 Army Cadet Unit in Wagga (where my son Tom had been a cadet and daughter Hannah is currently a recruit). With husband Ian’s involvement in the RSL Sub Branch in Wagga and Reserves Associations I like to lend my time and support wherever I can.
